Edinburgh Designer Shopping

Edinburgh is most renowned for it’s beautiful, neoclassical buildings, blooming gardens, endearing cobbled streets & compelling Scottish history. But what most fail to remember about Edinburgh is that hidden within the hilly Scottish capital, are streets filled with some of the world’s finest Luxury Boutiques, the best of British brands and even a Harvey Nichols department store. After receiving an exclusive, VIP invite to the opening of the Chanel Edinburgh Ephemeral Boutique, the Handbag Angels hopped on a train for a short but sweet Scottish escape. Continue reading to see all of the luxury handbag delights we spotted whilst shopping in Edinburgh, including those in a jaw dropping Harvey Nichols Sale, and for an insight into the Chanel ‘Pop Up’ Boutique in Charlotte Square.

HARVEY NICHOLS, EDINBURGH

The first stop on our Edinburgh escape was luxury department store Harvey Nichols. The task ahead was set to be a long one, with over 4 floors packed with top designer brands to make our way through. Our eyes first met Loewe, which had a minimalistic display of the most popular Summer basket bags and raffia totes. Sales Assistants advised us that the Loewe Anagram Basket Bag had a tendency to sell out in store as soon as it hit the shelves, making it a contender for the Summer basket bag of the season. Speaking of Summer basket bags, Harvey Nichols also had on display various Celine Triomphe Basket Bags, in tan, black, gold & pink.

Next, we wandered over to YSL Saint Laurent where we spotted Rive Gauche Summer staples, placed amongst some of Saint Laurent’s most iconic models including the YSL LouLou & YSL College. It then wasn’t long until we graced the Givenchy counter with our presence, where we had to resist all temptation to come home with a Givenchy G-Hobo Bag.

After Givenchy was Lanvin, a luxury brand that originated from being just a small hat shop in the centre of Paris back in 1889. Fast forward to 2023, Lanvin is now the oldest French fashion house still in operation. What caught our eye the most at the Lanvin counter was this ‘Hobo Cat Bag’, which was embellished with a unique, sculptural cat handle. Whilst the cat handle may not be to everybody’s taste, it would certainly make a statement piece.

We soon stumbled across Stella McCartney, with various Falabella Totes on display including a wee embellished Mini Crystal Falabella hiding at the bottom. Harvey Nichols also stocked larger versions of the Falabella Tote, a vegan leather tote bag that we can certainly vouch for due to already having one in our handbag collection. The Valentino stand was next, which showcased numerous handbag lines including the Valentino Locò, Rockstud, VLogo Signature & Rockstud Spike.

With a lot of ground already covered, we weren’t ready to rest just yet. We came across Marc Jacobs Tote Bags, Snapshot Cameras & Pouches, and we were particularly drawn to this Marc Jacobs Raffia Pouch. The Marc Jacobs Raffia Pouch, paired with the matching Raffia/Leather Marc Jacobs Tote Bag would make the ultimate Summer duo. Despite having been around for several years now, the Marc Jacobs Tote Bag seems to still be one of the most sought after designer totes in 2023, which is perhaps why there weren’t many to be seen on the shelves in Harvey Nichols.

Moving on from Marc Jacobs, we found Chloé. The Chloé selection was minimal, although offered the iconic Chloé Marcie Shoulder in beautiful colours including oak, white, mauve, nude & even a pastel green. We also spotted the Chloé Small Marcie Saddle Bag, Marcie Mini Flap Bag, Marcie Micro Bucket and the Marcie Small Clutch.

And now for the main event: The Harvey Nichols Summer Sale! We couldn’t believe our eyes when we spotted the Sale counter filled with Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga, Christian Louboutin & more. Iconic Bottega Veneta handbags including the Mini Jodie, Arco Tote, Cassette Camera & the Bottega Pouch were marked down by up to a whopping 50%, in some delightful colour ways, too! We simply couldn’t leave empty handed from the Harvey Nichols Sale, so may have picked up some handbag delights that you’ll need to keep an eye out for on our social media platforms.

LUXURY BOUTIQUES IN EDINBURGH

After spending several hours wandering the floors of Harvey Nichols, it was time to head out onto the streets of Edinburgh. We visited Some of our favourite designer boutiques, including Louis Vuitton in St Andrew’s Square and Mulberry & Strathberry on Multrees Walk. However, we sadly didn’t have much time to spare before our VIP appointment at the Chanel Edinburgh Ephemeral Boutique…

CHANEL EDINBURGH EPHEMERAL BOUTIQUE

The Chanel ‘Pop Up’ Boutique in Edinburgh is located in a beautiful, listed building in Charlotte Square and consists of 3 sales floors, staff quarters & cellars. Advertising for the pop up was kept to a minimum, with one stand alone billboard in the entire city and sales assistants being granted very few time slots to grant to their clients. Upon our arrival for our ‘VIP experience’, we were greeted by lovely Chanel SAs and staff members offering champagne & canapés to assist us in browsing the 2022/2023cChanel Métiers D’Art Collection
