DeMellier New York Tote Review
If there’s one designer bag that won’t stop popping up on our Instagram feed, it’s the DeMellier New York Tote bag. As luxury becomes less and less attainable for many, contemporary brands such as DeMellier are taking a different approach to consumers with lower prices, whilst still maintaining A* quality. In this blog post, we’ll be diving into both sizes of the DeMellier New York Tote, exploring its features, advantages, disadvantages and our bespoke handbag organiser especially for the New York.

The DeMellier New York is recognised by its unique, bat wing like shape and decorative front clasp which can be left open or secured. In similarity to a lot of other contemporary brands on the market, DeMellier always keeps it discrete and the New York Tote is no exception. The only logo to be found on the tote is the small hot stamp at the bottom. DeMellier has designed the New York with a double top handle, and a magnetic internal closure for security. To further secure your belongings, you can even close the press studs at either end of the bag.
Initially, the New York Tote was launched in only cowhide leather. DeMellier claim the following regarding their leather materials…
“We use real leather of the highest quality, sourced exclusively from the tanneries in Italy and complying with the highest EU regulations and standards. Our suppliers are certified by the European Leather Working Group, guaranteeing our exacting standards of sustainability and responsible sourcing.”
As fashion trends have progressed, the brand now offers the New York Tote in other materials including shearling, suede and leathers of different effects including croc & lizard.
Two sizes are available: the New York and Midi New York. A slight price gap divides the two, with the Midi costing £445 and the larger costing £495. The only style difference between the two is that the Midi New York comes with an adjustable, removable shoulder strap. If you’re looking for a bag that fits everything inside including the kitchen sink, the regular/large DeMellier New York is certainly the one for you. It’s ideal for work and travel, and can be comfortably carried on the shoulder. In contrast, the DeMellier Midi New York is better suited for day-to-day errands or as an evening bag. The handle is more appropriate to be carried on the crook of the elbow instead of the shoulder, and the strap allows you to wear it across the body.
